How To Convince Employees To Adopt New Technology

Updated: Mar 16, 2023

As a business owner, you probably know that technology is necessary for your business operations; you also know that electronics don’t last forever. Because some people may be hesitant to accept change, you may have to convince some of your employees to use different technology to do their jobs properly. Whether due to interest, age, or skill level, some employees may resist changes to their role expectations as long as possible. Consider a few tips to convince employees to adopt new technology.

Empathize With Them and Explain The Vision

Changing anything about the workplace can be a challenge, and you must remember that not everyone will accept changes in the same manner. Even if you know this new technology will make things easier for everyone in the long run, you should empathize with your employees and let them know that you care about their thoughts and opinions.

One of the easiest ways to empathize with your employees while justifying your decision to upgrade is to explain your overall vision for these changes. For instance, if you believe these technological advancements will increase your business’s revenue or make your client experience easier, you must make your staff aware of these benefits.

Prioritize Training

Adopting new technology is one thing, but providing adequate training is another. Whether you believe the change involves a simple switch or a significant change, you must prioritize personalized training for your employees. As you already know, your employees may have different strengths, weaknesses, and skill levels, meaning that each person may require a different level of training when it comes to learning a new system or piece of equipment.

Offer Incentives

If you have employees who are extremely resistant to learn more about the new technology, you should consider offering incentives to keep them interested. Whether you offer gift cards, cash prizes, a better parking spot, or something else, your employees will be more likely to familiarize themselves with the system or equipment you need them to use when they feel motivated to do so.

Keep It Simple

While upgrading any part of your business can come with complications and stress, you should do your best to keep things simple. Because you’re upgrading your technology, you may need to rid yourself of old equipment. To make it easier on yourself, consider a commercial electronic buyback program or another e-recycling service. This way, you’ll have more time to focus on adjusting your company to the new technology rather than disposing of the old devices.

Now that you know how to convince employees to adopt new technology, you can make the upgrades as seamless as possible. Businesses must keep up with technological advancements in order to stay successful; don’t let your employees fall behind.
